Chris Kanyon
Former WWE and WCW pro wrestler Chris Kanyon passed away in his Queens, NY apartment Friday night of an apparent suicide.
Kanyon, whose real name was Chris Klucsaritis, suffered from bipolar disorder and severe depression.
Early reports cite the cause of death as an intentional overdose of pills according to the Wrestling Observer.
The 40-year-old reportedly threatened suicide on numerous occasions and had recently been going through a severe bout of depression.
His pro wrestling career began in late 1991 when he trained at the Lower East Side Wrestling Gym in Manhattan. He made his in-ring debut in April 1992.
His big break came late in 1994 when he was used as a jobber in WWE, then WWF.
World Championship Wrestling would come calling a few short years later in 1997 where he would work with Mark Starr as part of the “Men at Work” tag team.
Later that year he would debut as Mortis, which is perhaps his most famous gimmick.
In 1998 he worked with the late Bam Bam Bigelow and Diamond Dallas Page as part of the Jersey Triad.
Kanyon remained with WCW through its absorption by WWE in 2001 where he would go on to win the WCW US Championship and capture the WWE Tag Team Championship with DDP.
WWE released him from his contract on February 9, 2004.
He briefly retired in 2004, but returned to work the indies in 2005 and also had a brief stint with TNA Wrestling.
