The 2010 WWE Royal Rumble was full of twists, turns and surprises and proved that it is indeed one of their biggest pay per views of the year.

Edge returned to the WWE after months off with an Achilles tendon injury to win the Royal Rumble match and earn a title shot at WrestleMania XXVI.

The evening kicked off with the ECW title match between Christian and Ezekiel Jackson. The match was far better than most thought it would be.

Jackson dominated the majority of the match, but Christian was able to hit a Kill Switch to take it home.

The referee kicked William Regal out of the ringside area about half way through the match.

In a segment backstage after the match, it was announced that The Miz will defend his US Title against MVP on the show.

The Miz retained his United States Championship at Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay per view. He faced MVP in an impromptu title defense that was set up by Teddy Long.

Miz rolled up MVP with a small package as the challenger was hopping back into the ring and was able to get the pin from there.

After the match MVP hit Miz with the Playmaker to excite the crowd. It wasn’t without due as the US Champion was getting in MVP’s face.

Both men will still compete in the Royal Rumble match.

Cody Rhodes cost Randy Orton the WWE Title at Sunday’s WWE Royal Rumble pay per view.

Orton, who was very much the fan favorite in the match, was working against Sheamus in a pretty good match at the time Rhodes drew the disqualification.

Rhodes hopped the guard rail and attacked Sheamus on the outside in clear view of the referee.

Once back in the ring, Orton hit the WWE Champion with the RKO, but the ref called for the DQ.

Orton confronted Rhodes after the match and then beat him down, saying that he “was done.”

Ted DiBiase ran in from the back to try to break it up, but Orton assaulted him as well until Sheamus regained his composure and laide out the leader of Legacy.

Prior to the match, WWE teased the breakup of the trio through a series of backstage segments with Rhodes and DiBiase each telling Orton to be careful of the other.

The WWE Women’s Championship Match opened hot at the Royal Rumble and didn’t last long.

Mickie James defeated Michelle McCool in a matter of seconds to become a five time WWE Women’s champion.

Prior to the match, McCool and Layla El did another spoof of “Piggie James” with Layla in the fat suit.

However, Mickie ran out, took out Layla and then took out McCool with a Mick DDT.

A number of WWE Divas, including Gail Kim, Kelly Kelly, Maria and the Bella Twins came out with a cake after the match, presented it to James who then promptly planted in the face of McCool and Layla.

The Undertaker retained his World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Rey Mysterio at Sunday’s WWE Royal Rumble pay per view in Atlanta.

The pair of WWE veterans worked a dandy of a match that may have cost the champions a broken nose. His nose got bloodied about half way through and got progressively worse as he and Rey Mysterio continued to work.

But, the nose didn’t slow them down and actually added an element of toughness to the match.

The finish came after Mysterio hit two consecutive 619’s on The Dead Man only to be hit with The Last Ride to take it home.

WWE continued to build the Shawn Michaels and Undertaker feud afterwards by cutting to a shot of HBK watching in the back. Kane and Triple H were involved as well, each somewhat staking their claim that they will win the match.

Dolph Ziggler was the first man to enter to 2010 WWE Royal Rumble. Evan Bourne was the second and the two men worked the opening segment of the fan favorite match.

Their time in the ring was short-lived as CM Punk came out in the third spot and eliminated them both in a matter of seconds.

He was joined by Serena Deeb and cut a promo whil awaiting the next entrant who turned out to be JTG of Cryme Tyme. After disposing of him, he got back on the mic while awaiting the next guy.

That next guy turned out to be the Great Khali, followed by Beth Phoenix. The Glamazon tricked Khali into kissing her and was able to eliminate him as a result. She was then eliminated by CM Punk.

Once Triple H entered at No. 8, CM Punk went out.

Things settled down around this point in the match. In fact, there were seven competitors in the ring-the most of the night to that point.

MVP was the 14th competitor into the Royal Rumble match, but was attacked by the Miz before even making into the ring. Miz wasn’t even in the match yet. The refs helped him to the back.

The Miz was entered into the match two spots later and MVP was right behind him. MVP eliminated them both in short order.

HBK cleared house when he came in at No. 18. John Cena was the 19th man in and had to face DX by himself.

Shawn Michaels eliminated Triple H with Sweet Chin Music, which brought the match back to “every man for himself” mentality.

The match then settled back down. As competitors came and went without much fanfare. It was kind of cool to see R-Truth take out Mark Henry and Big Show though.

Edge returned at No. 29 and speared the house. His first elimination was Chris Jericho.

Batista is the last man in the Rumble and eliminated Shawn Michaels who pleaded with officials to let him back in the match. He then took two of them out before eventually heading to the back.

John Cena was then able to eliminate Batista and turn his sites to Edge. However, the Rated R Superstar would not be denied and eliminated Cena shortly thereafter to earn a title shot at WrestleMania XXVI.

The question is… who will he face?
