Shawn Michaels
The final match of the WWE Elimination Chamber pay per view saw Chris Jericho become the new World Heavyweight Champion and Shawn Michaels cost Undertaker the title. Here’s how it played out.
CM Punk was accompanied to the ring by Serena and Luke Gallows. He got on the mic and cut a promo comparing his opponents being locked into the chamber to their everyday lives where they depend on drugs and such.
He was cut of by R-Truth when he was talking about how they would be drowning their pain with alcohol and prescription medication in the morning.
Punk and R-Truth started the match while, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker, Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho and John Morrison awaited their turn to enter the match.
Punk eliminated R-Truth with the GTS before the next man could enter the ring. He then continued his straight edge crusade on the mic.
Rey Mysterio is the first man let out of his pod. He and Punk go back and forth with Mr. Savior using the luchadore as a baseball bat at one point.
Then, Mysterio hit a Hurricarana off the top rope, sending Punk crashing onto the steel. A splash later and CM Punk is eliminated.
Chris Jericho entered the match just ten seconds later. He and Mysterio would put on a strong five minute effort until John Morrison came into the match.
Morrison was able to counter a Mysterio Hurricarana effort with a Starship Pain to eliminate Mr. 619.
The Undertaker, who was the Champion heading into the match, was the final man to be released from his pod. He saved Morrison who was locked in the Walls of Jericho when the Dead Man was released.
For the second time on the night a WWE wrestler began bleeding as Jericho got a little bit of color on his cheek.
Meanwhile, in his battles with Undertaker, Jericho and the Deadman broke one of the doors on the chamber, leaving it hanging from its hinges. Refs had to hold it up from the outside.
Morrison’s ankle came into play while he was working over the World Heavyweight Champion as Jericho cowered back in one of the pods, holding the door shut.
Undertaker chokeslammed Morrison on the steel to send him packing, leaving only he and Jericho in the match.
The went on to work a beauty, include a series where they countered a chokesam into a Hell’s Gate into the Wall of Jericho and back into a Hell’s Gate.
Undertaker was setting up for the finish with a chokeslam, but Shawn Michaels popped out from under the cage and hit Sweet Chin Music on the Undertaker.
In shock, Jericho covered the Dead Man to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
Dressed in street clothes, Michaels stood over Undertaker as the show drew to a close.
