WWE will hold WrestleMania 27 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta in 2011.
An official announcement will be made Monday afternoon according to a report by Jennifer Brett of the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
“Atlanta has a long-standing reputation of hosting the highest level of sporting events,” Atlanta Sports Council president Gary Stokan said Friday, per the report. “Adding WrestleMania 27 to our list of wins would further showcase Atlanta as the sports capital of the world.”
WWE’s signature event could generate as much as $50 million for the area economy.
The timing of the announcement is hardly coincidental. WWE is holding the Royal Rumble in Atlanta on Sunday.
It had been previously reported that Miami, Florida was also in the running.
Meanwhile, Toronto continues to be odds on favorite to host WrestleMania in 2012, but an official decision on that is not expected for some time.
