As has seemingly become tradition, WWE held its annual post-WrestleMania roster cleansing on Thursday by releasing seven talents including one of the most popular WWE Divas in recent history.
World Wrestling Entertainment released Mike Knox, Shelton Benjamin, Kung Fu Naki, Jimmy Wang Yang, Slam Master J, Katie Lea Burchill and Mickie James.
Ironically for James, WWE will hold its annual draft next week in her hometown of Richmond, Virginia.
From a pure working standpoint, Benjamin will be the biggest loss for WWE.
According to the Wrestling Observer, there is already talk within TNA about bringing in Benjamin and his former tag partner Charlie Haas.

Wow! I am in shock that Shelton Benjamin and Mickie James will no longer wrestle for the WWE. Although they may be minor elements in the overall makeup of the company, I can’t help but feel like we, as a wrestling fans, have lost two staples of the WWE’s programming. Mickie seemingly has a country singing career ahead of her, while Shelton; well, let’s see what happens, but it seems he may be heading to where the red and yellow run wild, and young talents go to die (i.e. Pope D’Angelo Dinero).
